Chiropractic care is an effective treatment for those suffering from spinal pain.   One of the most common reasons for these types of complaints occurs following an injury that occurs at work or due to an auto accident.  A promising situation that is now being seen in recent years is an integrated approach to spine care.  These protocols include a proper initial evaluation to establish a working diagnosis, spinal manipulation or adjusting to restore proper joint function, and progressive rehabilitation to prevent re-occurrence.  In a study published in 2009,  100 worker injury cases that received this type of approach were reviewed.

The authors wrote, "The purpose of this study is to report on integrative care for the treatment of injured workers with neck or back pain referred to a doctor of chiropractic from a medical or osteopathic provider" (Aspegren et al., 2009, p. 765).

"The study demonstrated the positive effects of including chiropractic services in integrative care when treating compensable neck and/or back pain. Patients recorded an improvement in functional scores and subjective responses involving work-related spinal injuries. Improvement was noted in all 3 time-based phases of patient status (acute, subacute, and chronic)" (Aspegren et al., 2009, p. 770).

The purpose of Chiropractic adjustment is to remove joint adhesion and restore normal function and alignment to the injured spinal region(s).  Chiropractic as a profession has the highest level of training in spinal manipulation (adjustments) and training in spinal rehabilitative techniques.  If your condition does not progress as expected the Chiropractic physician has been trained to evaluate and referred to the proper specialist for further evaluation and care.
