Sleep aids

A frequent complaint that we here at our Asheville - Fairview Chiropractic Family Chiropractic office is sleeping problems.  We all know that getting a good night's sleep means being more alert, better moods, and overall better health.  So how can you help yourself get better sleep?

A quick search on this topic suggests 4 major things that we can do to help ourselves to a better night's sleep.

  1. Get daily exercise that raises your heart rate like a brisk walk.   One of the main benefits is it is said to burn off some of the stress hormones that can be present in your body.
  2. Establish a time that you will go to bed and try to keep this time sacred so your body knows when it is supposed to turn off.
  3. Make sure your room is dark and quiet.  Light is said to inhibit the quality of sleep.  Noise, especially that of a TV with commercials etc will arouse you from your deeper sleep decreasing the quality of your sleep.
  4. Avoid caffeinated drinks and/or high-sugar-content foods after lunch.

 

We have had many patients tell us that they have been helped by taking valerian as a gentle treatment for insomnia and other sleep disorders.  We also find this is supported by some researchers.  It is also recommended for restlessness and anxiety. One of the biggest perks of valerian is can improve the quality of your sleep without leaving you feeling groggy the next morning.
