Pillows are wonderful in that we use them to keep our head and neck comfortable while we are laying down to sleep or relax. The challenge is that many individuals find that their favorite pillow quits working for them. We get attached to these and some find it hard to give them up. The net result is that many individuals end up with neck pain that could easily be avoided with a new pillow. The old pillows can lose it's original support. A weight gain can change the way the pillow fits. So here are some guidelines when selecting a new pillow. Look for a pillow that when you lying on your side will hold your neck and back in on straight line. Your head should not hang down nor should it be elevated. When you lay on your back your neck should be supported and not just your head. The head should also be level with the rest of your body.
The bottom line is that a bad pillow can cause neck pain and a properly fitted pillow and/or type of pillow can bring relief for many neck pain issues.
